How Does Trading In a Financed Car Work?

1. See what the remaining balance on your loan is. You can find this amount listed on your monthly statement.
2. Use our Value Your Trade tool to estimate your current vehicle’s value. Remember, this is simply an estimate, and you won’t know your vehicle’s worth until it gets physically inspected by the dealership.
3. If the remaining amount of your auto loan is less than the trade-in offer, you’ll have money left to put towards buying a pre-owned car from the dealer. So, if you owe $7,000 on your loan and you’re offered $8,000, you can put that $1,000 towards your next purchase.
